What is the recovery time after a hair transplant in Turkey?

Recovery from a hair transplant in Turkey unfolds in distinct phases:

Days 1–3 (immediately post-op):

• Tightness and mild swelling around forehead
• Crusts form over recipient area
• Pain rated 2–4/10 by most patients (managed with over-the-counter painkillers)
• First medical wash on Day 2 at the clinic

Days 4–10:

• Swelling subsides
• Crusts begin falling off
• Recipient area transitions from sunburn-red to pink
• Most international patients return to non-physical work by day 5–7

Days 10–14:

• Crusts almost entirely gone
• Recipient area looks pink-to-normal
• Hair follicles are now anchored
• Sun exposure with hat protection allowed
• Light exercise resumed

Month 1: shock loss phase.

• Transplanted hair sheds
• This is universal and normal
• Hair follicles survive in the scalp; only the visible shaft falls
• Many patients panic at this stage — don't. The follicles are working underground.

Months 2–3: first new growth.

• Visible regrowth begins
• Initial hairs appear thin and unevenly distributed
• This is normal — density builds gradually

Month 6:

• Approximately 40–50% of final density visible
• Hair is now thickening
• Most patients feel comfortable in social settings

Month 12:

• Final hair transplant result visible
• This is the photo for before/after comparison
• Density, color, and integration with native hair are all final

Total recovery to social comfort: ~3 months. Total recovery to final result: 12 months.

For DHI hair transplant in Turkey: the visible crusting phase is shorter (4–6 days vs 7–10 for FUE), but the underlying hair growth timeline (month 1 shock loss → month 3 new growth → month 12 final) is identical.
